Marissa Meyer is quickly becoming one of my favorite YA authors. Her fusion of Young Adult romance and science fiction with personal touches to well known fairy tales makes for a unique read. I love how she's also added a few subtle pieces from the wildly popular Sailor Moon anime without really giving it away. I didn't really pick up on the Sailor Moon influences until I was trying to convince a friend she should read The Lunar Chronicles, but maybe that's only because I'm not a huge fan of anime.. Review: Nirvana
I'm not usually a fan of fiction that features virtual worlds in any form. I really love the idea of Virtual Reality in real life, but on paper it tends to lose my interest. I like my fiction and VR separate, I guess. Nirvana did a great job in separating itself from the current speculative fiction genre. The VR aspects are super important to the story which readers learn later on, but it isn't the VR mysteries that kept my interest. Review: Crooked Little Lies
Crooked Little Lies is nothing like what I usually read and had a really hard time putting it down. It took while to get going, but once the novel found its rhythm it was easy to get lost in the tale. We meet Lauren, a recovered addict who struggles from day to day with her memory. She sees a man, Bo Laughlin, on the side of the road and stops to make sure he's okay. Lauren is the last person to see him before he goes missing. Review: The Morning After Memoirs
The Morning After Memoirs is a cross between Bridget Jones' Diary and Sex in The City with plenty of humour, adult issues and poor choices to keep a reader guessing whats next. I found Michael's writing style interesting and the British humour really refreshing. The Morning After Memoirs really highlighted that I don't get to read enough British literature!
