I started off as all new reviewers do - completely lost and lacking any self-confidence. I spent the first year of my review career only posting on Goodreads. I didn't feel what I had to say was important. I definitely wasn't ready to create a blog or interact with authors. The very thought of talking to an author was intimidating. What if they didn't like me? My first year proved to be educational on all sorts of things and I enthusiastically nabbed every bit of experience I could get. I requested titles on NetGalley, read freebies on Amazon and even reviewed ... Continue Reading...
Review: The Worst of Times
The Worth of Times is a book that looks to be fairly straightforward on the surface, but is actually semi-complex. Wignall's novel describes how and why cataclysms caused mass extinctions in pre-historic time. He explains how scientists use technology and ancient clues to solve the riddles surrounding mass extinctions. He mainly describes the role of volcanic activities in mass extinction events. The novel attempts to foster further understanding as to why LIPs (large igneous provinces), which can develop into volcanic provinces, were so detrimental to life before ... Continue Reading...
Thursday Bookish Updates #5
Thursday Bookish Updates is a weekly post here at Silk&Serif devoted to anything book related. The main goal of this posting is to keep readers up to date on what's going on in the community and get a taste of future posts. I was inspired by a post I read by Kelsye at Wise Ink Blog Ultimate Bloggers Guide to Growing Your Readership. Her list of ways to increase traffic ... Continue Reading...

Review: The Bourbon Kings
I originally got my hands on The Bourbon Kings from a friend who managed to get an eARC from NetGalley. I read 30% while waiting for her to do a few errands and had to purchase it once it came out in ebook. I can't leave any book half-read, ever. I'm a little sad to say that the little over a month wait for the book might have impacted my review a bit. If you plan on reading The Bourbon Kings you really should be ready for a complete read through without breaks or the magic will be lost. The book requires the reader to be in the moment - not rushing to catch up ... Continue Reading...
