Thursday Bookish Updates #13

ThursdayBookishUpdatesBow
Thursday Bookish Updates is a weekly post here at Silk&Serif devoted to anything book related. The main goal of this posting is to keep readers up to date on what’s going on in the community and get a taste of future posts. I will provide information on some community events I am participating in and blurbs on newly acquired titles to be reviewed at a later date. I might even slip in a few surprises here and there.

I was inspired by a post I read by Kelsye at Wise Ink Blog Ultimate Bloggers Guide to Growing Your Readership. Her list of ways to increase traffic got me thinking about how little I actually do to set schedules and really update readers on what to expect from my little slice of the inter-webs. In theory, this feature should help keep me on track and active. My long term goal is to turn this post into a weekly newsletter of sorts outlining where we are and where we are going.

#OTSPSecretSister

My dogs got in on the fun with my Secret Sister’s box this month! It was dog themed with a few super adorable gifts for Jake and Bailey along with some goodies for me! A stuffed fox with plenty of squeakers (squeakers are important!), Greenie teeth cleaning treats (Yum), an adorable doggie pen, a dog poem book from my Goodreads Wish List and

OTSPboxNovI’ve already started reading some of the poems and its rather cute. It actually reminds me how lucky I am to have such well behaved dogs! šŸ˜‰ So, my afternoon plans are to sit and read dog poetry while my dogs enjoy their spoils:

DogsNovBox

I definitely adore this box for so many reasons. Dogs being one of my favourite things, but also the fact that my dogs will be busy the entire afternoon! I’m going to leave this post with mostly just pictures of Jake and Bailey enjoying themselves because: dog pictures!

WishesForChristmas by Fern Michaels: Kensington Books: Zebra.

I haven’t read Fern Michaels before so receiving and ARC was actually quite exciting! I won this from the GoodReads First Read program a few weeks ago and have started reading it just this week. It’s properly Christmas-y and really well written. Just what I need to slip into the Christmas season spirit!

New York Times bestselling author Fern Michaels brings together the beloved heroines from two celebrated series—the Sisterhood and the Godmothers—for a holiday to remember…This Christmas, instead of finding and punishing bad guys, all Maggie Spritzer wants is to bring a little more joy to the world—especially to a beloved teacher from her past. And as the Sisterhood unites to find her, they learn that no holiday treat is as fulfilling as giving to others…
Meanwhile, with a little help from the other Godmothers, Toots Loudenberry is preparing for Charleston’s annual holiday showcase of historic homes. But when the Godmothers sense trouble with one of the decorators, they must tackle a mystery and hope for a happy ending…
When Sisters and Godmothers unite, the result is a warm and wonderful holiday—with a special touch of magic…
AWhisperofDesire by Fern Michaels: Loveswept.

I don’t know what happened but over the last year my interest in adult romance has waned. I received A Touch of Passion earlier this year and really enjoyed it, but it was at the end of my “fling” with romance works. Considering Bowen is releasing the next book in the series and I have to know what happens next it wasn’t much of a struggle to request book four of The Disgraced Lords series. It’s going to be fantastic!

Sensual heat melts the ice in the new Disgraced Lords novel from USA Today bestselling author Bronwen Evans, as a marriage of convenience leads to delightful pleasure—and mortal danger.
Lady Marisa Hawkstone’s nightmare is just beginning when she wakes up naked, with no memory of the night before, lying next to Maitland Spencer, the Duke of Lyttleton—a man so aloof and rational, he’s nicknamed ā€œthe Cold Duke.ā€ A scandal ensues, in which Marisa’s beloved beau deserts her. As a compromised woman, Marisa agrees to marry Maitland. But on her wedding night, Marisa discovers the one place the duke shows emotion: in the bedroom, where the man positively scorches the sheets.
Taught from a young age to take duty seriously, Maitland cannot understand his new wife’s demands on his love and affection. Marisa’s hot-blooded spirit, however, does have its attractions—especially at night. In retrospect, it seems quite silly that he didn’t marry sooner. But being one of the Libertine Scholars requires constant vigilance, even more so when the enemy with a grudge against his closest friends targets Marisa. Now Maitland must save the woman who sets his heart aflame—or die trying.

Winter by Marissa Meyer: Feiwel and Friends.
Obviously, I purchased Winter a few days after it was released, but I just haven’t had the chance to read it yet. And I want to. The exciting culmination of The Lunar Chronicles focuses on wrapping up this unique series. I’m sad to see the end so near, but so very excited.

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.
Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.
Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?
