I am a huge fan of the post-apocalyptic genre, so when I saw The Book of The Unnamed Midwife on NetGalley I was intrigued. A novel that follows a nurse the initial days after an apocalyptic event that kills a large portion of the female gender. In the days following the apocalypse women become property to men and it is revealed that no pregnancies render living children. As humanity struggles to overcome the loss of civilization, they also now must face a future without the ability to have children. I appreciated what this novel tried to do by bringing feminism to ... Continue Reading...
Release Blitz: Unknown
It's Finally Here! Unknown is the most recent release of Wendy Higgins, the creator of the Sweet Evil Series and The Great Hunt - but with a subtle difference. Instead of the usual YA novel, Higgins is forging ahead into the adult novelist world with her very first NA release. I don't know about you guys but I am psyched to read some more Higgins. Unknown is going to be an instant winner because it was written by any author who creates fantastic characters, intense romantic relationships and ridiculously exciting action scenes. Amber Tate is your typical American ... Continue Reading...
Review: Hell Divers
Imagine that humanity finally started World War 3 and the majority of the Earth fell into nuclear ruin. Now imagine a world where the last vestiges of humanity are living in air ships that float around the world above the nuclear ravaged world below for generations until only two ships remain. Xavier Rodriguez, the most ... Continue Reading...
Re-Review: Nirvana
This is my review of the revised and published edition of Nirvana. My review of the ARC copy of Nirvana, which I enjoyed, can be found here. I'm pretty sure Nirvana was rewritten to fit with a middle grade audience or YA focus on the second go around. I'm not a reader of middle grade fiction, so my review probably doesn't really fit with the intended audience..but Nirvana works better as an New Adult Speculative Fiction title than a Young Adult title. To be fair, in such a short amount of time the author rewrote Nirvana better than I ever could. Uhh..okay. So, ... Continue Reading...
Review: MARTians
This is my first novel by Blythe Woolston and to be completely honest I had never heard of her before the release of MARTians. I was not at all disappointed, Blythe is a very talented and creative writer. MARTians is a very dark dystopian novel based on the current societal trend towards wasteful consumption. People have placed all their trust in big companies and their sole drive in life is to consume as much as possible. We also get to follow the disastrous events of Zoe Zindleman's life after she is graduated early from school in the name of "efficiency" and her ... Continue Reading...
