The Morning After Memoirs is a cross between Bridget Jones' Diary and Sex in The City with plenty of humour, adult issues and poor choices to keep a reader guessing whats next. I found Michael's writing style interesting and the British humour really refreshing. The Morning After Memoirs really highlighted that I don't get to read enough British literature! Jess goes from being a stable woman in a long term relationship to someone who has a drinking problem and a long succession of one night stands. She moves back home, starts drinking more than usual and meets all ... Continue Reading...
Review: Cinder
Why did I put Cinder off for so long?! I remember reading the synopsis and being really unexcited but I kept hearing SUCH GOOD THINGS. I kept thinking "I'll probably like it, but I have all these other books that kind of seem more interesting so I'll read those instead." Time went on. I didn't read Cinder. Seriously, I regret that decision now because I loved Cinder to bits. It's unique, exciting and you don't see the twists coming. I read Cinder as part of The Lunar Chronicles Read Along hosted by @bookaddictsguide! The whole event is about reading the Lunar ... Continue Reading...
Review: The Bourbon Kings
I originally got my hands on The Bourbon Kings from a friend who managed to get an eARC from NetGalley. I read 30% while waiting for her to do a few errands and had to purchase it once it came out in ebook. I can't leave any book half-read, ever. I'm a little sad to say that the little over a month wait for the book might have impacted my review a bit. If you plan on reading The Bourbon Kings you really should be ready for a complete read through without breaks or the magic will be lost. The book requires the reader to be in the moment - not rushing to catch up ... Continue Reading...
Review: Emergence: Dave vs. the Monsters
Dave is your average, middle aged, balding, hard working man. He loves hookers, his booze and his blow. Okay, maybe he isn't average. He has his issues, but he's not a bad guy. Really. He's just had some down luck the last few years, but he's going to fix it once he gets his next big paycheck. The IRS? He'll pay them back! The child support payment? It's coming along! Just a few more days! Even his coworkers adore him: Dave, as she never tired of pointing out, was an exemplar - she used the actual work, too, having read it in one of those undreadable werewolf ...
