If you are a lover of dark, tormented novels and are not at all squeamish when it comes to rape, death and gore then Wolves is most definitely for you! Review: Machinations
Every once in a while I come across a novel that clearly isn’t written for me. This doesn’t mean the novel isn’t a wonderful book on its own or isn’t worth someone else’s reading efforts; merely that for myself something didn’t “click”. I wasn’t satisfied on a base level with this book and I’m not certain if it was the main character, something about the plot, or the writing style – but this one just didn’t cast the same spell over me as most post-apocalyptic novels tend to and I couldn’t really put my finger on why. Review: A Time of Torment
I wasn't really sure what to expect when I received an invite via NetGalley to read A Time of Torment. The synopsis is rather vague and doesn't really do this novel justice. I have never read a novel from the Charlie Parker series so I wasn't sure what this novel was really about. Paranormal creatures? Vigilante Private Investigator? Murder Mystery? It turns out A Time of Torment is actually a little bit of all three. A Time of Torment is properly dark, with some really captivating cultural lore behind the mystery of the "entity" that resides in the Cut. The Cut is a ... Continue Reading...
Review: The Summit
When I first noticed The Summit on NetGalley I was pretty excited. I didn't even stop to read the full synopsis because, well, Everest, mountaineering and intrigue? Sign me up! I was a bit nervous when I realized what The Summit was actually about - Nazis. Fortunately, Farthing's novel was an amazing mix of Nazi historical fiction and mountaineering fiction to make this novel pretty fantastic. The fact that Farthing also has extensive real life experience in mountain climbing as well as having been blessed with his own experiences on Everest only added an additional ... Continue Reading...
Review: Tridents Forge
The Ark, a massive space shuttle outfitted to harbor thirty thousands souls away from a dying Earth in the hopes of finding a new home world, has arrived at a suitable planet. The residents of the Ark have begun to build a new colony by the sea on this strange planet inhabited by strange creatures called the G'tel. The G'tel have called the Tau Ceti G home for generations and have a primitive social structure based on gods and ritual rather than logic and technology. The two very different cultures are bound to clash - and do - when the first official greeting ceremony ... Continue Reading...
