I'll preface this review by saying I knew absolutely nothing about bones. I could tell you that it’s the hard stuff that holds our bodies vertical, that they sometimes break but eventually heal and it’s where our red blood cells come from, but beyond that? Nothing. Bones is a book that is for the initiated and uninitiated alike, although granted the initiated will find that 90% of the content of this book is remedial. The book is divided in three sections: what are bones and what do they do, what happens when bones ‘go bad’ and what innovations have we developed to ... Continue Reading...
Review: The Doors of Eden
The Doors of Eden is a tome at over 600 pages, but is written so beautifully that is doesn’t feel like 600 pages. It was a delight to read. I had a really difficult time writing this review. I wrote and rewrote my review before taking a break and then make this final attempt. My review doesn't do this book justice and some aspects of the book I found had my opinion waffling over whether this was a Very Good Book or just A Good Book. In the end, regardless of my struggles, the crux of this review is: Its a worthy read and you wont be sorry you read it! This is my ... Continue Reading...
Review: Cataclysm
Yellowstone National Park is the home of beautiful landscapes, hot springs, idyllic camp grounds and one of the world’s “super volcanoes”. Scientists estimate it has been approximately 640,000 years since the last time the super volcano's caldera erupted. When researchers tasked with observing and recording changes in the Yellowstone volcano’s rate of elevation and rising underground temperature discover that the volcano appears to have magma ... Review: Addicted to the Duke
Addicted to the Duke was one of those romance novels that made me cry and simultaneously root for the main characters. Alex, completely destroyed from his time in captivity to Turkish pirate where he cultivated a raging opium addiction, is in love with Lady Hestia. However, haunted by his past, he pushes her away believing he is unworthy of her affections. Lady Hestia is devoted to the man who rescued her from the same Turkish pirates a few years after Alex escaped captivity. Unfortunately, although Hestia is besotted with her savior for years after being rescued, ... Continue Reading...
Review: Future Threat
Briggs has done it again in the exciting second installment of the Future Shock series! Although not quite as good as Future Shock, Future Threat is a thrilling ride with plenty of twists and intriguing mystery to keep a reader guessing. Also, Briggs seems to have a talent for writing novels that are enthralling – you can read the entire novel without realizing you’ve been reading for hours! We return to the life of Elena a few months following the events covered in Future Shock. Aether Corp has promised to leave the ill-fated team of misfit teenagers alone and ... Continue Reading...
