\"ThursdayBookishUpdatesBow\"<\/a><\/center>Ive decided the time has come to really start updating my blog with what I do each week. I was recently inspired by a post I read by Kelsye at Wise Ink Blog Ultimate Bloggers Guide to Growing Your Readership<\/a>. Her list of ways to increase traffic got me thinking about how little I actually do to set schedules and really update readers on what to expect from my little slice of the inter-webs. In theory<\/i>, this feature should help keep me on track and active. My long term goal is to keep everyone updated on the comings and goings of Silk&Serif in the community on a weekly basis.<\/p>\n

What should you expect?<\/b> Every Thursday I’ll post a list of new books I’ve received through publishers or I’ve purchased myself. I will also include a portion about my activities in the book community that are especially exciting or “bookish” in my opinion.<\/p>\n

\nOn The Same Page Secret Sister<\/a> (#otspsecretsister) signups have opened this week and Ive been debating on throwing in my own dice for a chance to participate. The whole event is a six month cheer-giving celebration for book lovers who know the founders Brittany(@bookaddictguide) from On The Same Page<\/a>, Alyssa(@WithTheBanned) from Books Take You Places<\/a> and Amy from Tripping Over Books<\/a> (@trippingbooks). The entire event is centered around pen pals, friendships and support<\/i>. The whole event has tons of rules, but it certainly seems worth it to be able to send a little cheer to someone else in the book community.

The focus being on the end-Permian extinction event which the author is actively involved in researching. I love scientific novels about biology, evolution, physics and pre-history so this request mashed all my interests into one book!<\/p>\n
Two hundred and sixty million years ago, life on Earth suffered wave after wave of cataclysmic extinctions, with the worst\u2014the end-Permian extinction\u2014wiping out nearly every species on the planet. I’m uncertain about this book, but I feel the need to move from space ships, magical powers and romance into things outside my comfort zone. I read a few wonderful reviews about this book and decided maybe Chick Lit with a feel good temperament is in order. Plus, its about loving books and how that brings people together – doesn’t get better than that!<\/p>\n
Warning: once you let books into your life, the most unexpected things can happen\u2026<\/h5>\n
This is a book about books. All sorts of books, from Little Women and Harry Potter to Jodi Picoult and Jane Austen, from to Stieg Larsson to Joyce Carol Oates to Proust. It\u2019s about the joy and pleasure of books, about learning from and escaping into them, and possibly even hiding behind them. It\u2019s about whether or not books are better than real life.<\/h5>\n
It\u2019s also a book about a Swedish girl called Sara, her elderly American penfriend Amy and what happens when you land a very different kind of bookshop in the middle of a town so broken it\u2019s almost beyond repair.<\/h5>\n

\"Resistance\"<\/a><\/td>\n\u00a0by John Birmingham<\/b>: Purchased.<\/i> I received book three of the Dave Hooper trilogy from NetGalley and immediately had to buy book two. You can’t just skip half the story in this incredible world..plus you have to support great literature when you find it! Check out my review of book one here<\/a>!<\/p>\n

The Horde has been raising hell and leveling cities from New York to Los Angeles, keeping Dave and his fellow monster-killer, Russian spy Karin Varatschevsky, very busy.
