It took me awhile to get through book three of the Dave Hooper trilogy. I've never been much for military fiction so I think that perhaps the amount of fighting scenes in Ascendance might have slowed me down. It's not that Ascendance wasn't very good or that I disliked it, in fact I still loved it, but I found the beginning fighting scenes that take up a good 40% of the book were unnecessary for someone reading this series for the wit, sarcasm and fantasy elements. Birmingham is extremely well written and his action sequences are believable and inspiring. I struggled ... Continue Reading...

Review: Resistance – Dave vs The Monsters #2
Following the same satirical path as Emergence, we return to Dave and the end of the world via Orc-creatures. Review: Emergence: Dave vs. the Monsters
Dave is your average, middle aged, balding, hard working man. He loves hookers, his booze and his blow. Okay, maybe he isn't average. He has his issues, but he's not a bad guy. Really. He's just had some down luck the last few years, but he's going to fix it once he gets his next big paycheck. The IRS? He'll pay them back! The child support payment? It's coming along! Just a few more days! Even his coworkers adore him: Dave, as she never tired of pointing out, was an exemplar - she used the actual work, too, having read it in one of those undreadable werewolf ... Best Books of 2015 (So far..)
I have been recently looking through my recently read list on Goodreads and thinking over which books I genuinely loved and which were generally okay. I find myself doing this often throughout the year and find the practice to be a great way to learn about the evolution of my reading habits. We all go through phases that include different genres, plots or character types, but we rarely stop and reflect on which of these books really stuck with us. Although we are already past the 50% mark for 2015, I felt it important to write a post concerning the best books I've ... Continue Reading...
Thursday Bookish Updates #1
Ive decided the time has come to really start updating my blog with what I do each week. I was recently inspired by a post I read by Kelsye at Wise Ink Blog Ultimate Bloggers Guide to Growing Your Readership. Her list of ways to increase traffic got me thinking about how little I actually do to set schedules and really update readers on what to expect from my little slice of the inter-webs. In theory, this feature should help keep me on track and active. My long term goal is to keep everyone updated on the comings and goings of Silk&Serif in the community on a ... Continue Reading...
